Franklin D. Roosevelt

" Government is a relation  of give and take, a contract, perforce, if we should follow the thinking out of which it grew. Under such a contract rulers were accorded power, and the people consented to that power on consideration that they be accorded certain rights."
Franklin D. Roosevelt  was a president with a great level of popular vote. He thought that the relation between the government and the people was a contract, in which they both give and received. He was famous for the Economic bill of right, in which funds were given to improve education, jobs, housing and health care.

W.E.B DuBois

  • Why does DuBois Believe the color line is the most important problem for American society?
DuBois believe that the color line was American's greatest problem because of people individuality. People were individual rather than thinking that they were who they were because of society. There was a color barrier in the 20th century and people were very superstitious; were they will judge one another because of the race or appearance, before getting to know the person.

" Your denial of my citizen's right to vote is the denial of my right of consent as one of the governed, the denial of my right of representation as one of the taxed, the denial of my right to a trial by a jury of my peers as an offender against law, therefore, the denial of my sacred rights to life, liberty, property..."

Susan B. Anthony was a women that fought for woman's rights. During the 19th century she promoted movements and speeches in order to accomplish her goal of obtaining women's right. Roe V. Wade

The Roe v. Wade court case discussed the issue of abortion in the United States. Roe was a pregnant women who wanted the right of privacy in her abortion. In this case the United States supreme court case held it was a constitutional right of privacy for women's to have an abortion. But this decision had some regulation from the state in order to protect the life of the fetus as well as the mother. For example during the first three month of pregnancy there is little risk so the state can't restrict and abortion, but after the three month the state can restricted and decide whether or not an abortion can take place.

Consider the following quote by Hamilton from no. 15 (p. 112), “Power controlled or abridged is almost always the rival and enemy of that power by which it is controlled or abridged”.
-Hamilton was saying this about state governments disobeying the central government, what point was he trying to make?
